本標準規定了工業用甲醇的要求、試驗方法、檢驗規則及標志、包裝、運輸、貯存和安全等。
本標準適用于以煤、焦油、天然氣、輕油、重油為原料合成的工業用甲醇。該產品主要用于化學工業、醫藥工業、農藥行業，也可作為燃料使用。

乙醇是甲醇的同系物，其物理化學性質與甲醇很相近，加之精細甲醇的純度很高（99．96％以上），主峰很寬，容易掩蓋乙醇峰，而且在多數固定液上，乙醇峰是在甲醇峰之后流出，受主峰影響嚴重，這就使得甲醇中微量乙醇的分析成為一個難題。國內現在很多企業都采用GB338—2004標準進行此項分析。

國標中采用6米的山li醇填充柱，完成一次分析需要30min左右，效率低，無法滿足生產檢測的需要，使用受限。

GB 338-2004 Industrial Methanol
This standard specifies the requirements, test methods, inspection rules, labeling, packaging, transportation, storage, and safety of industrial methanol.
This standard is applicable to industrial methanol synthesized from coal, tar, natural gas, light oil, and heavy oil as raw materials. This product is mainly used in the chemical industry, pharmaceutical industry, pesticide industry, and can also be used as fuel.
Ethanol is a homologue of methanol, and its physical and chemical properties are very similar to methanol. In addition, fine methanol has a high purity (over 99.96%) and a wide main peak, which easily masks the ethanol peak. Moreover, on most stationary liquids, the ethanol peak flows out after the methanol peak, which is severely affected by the main peak. This makes the analysis of trace amounts of ethanol in methanol a difficult problem. Many domestic enterprises now adopt the GB338-2004 standard for this analysis.
The national standard uses a 6-meter Shan Li alcohol packed column, which takes about 30 minutes to complete one analysis, with low efficiency and cannot meet the needs of production testing, limiting its use.

Haohan Chromatography (Shandong) Application Technology Development Co., Ltd. has developed the "GB338 Industrial Methanol Determination Upgrade Gas Chromatography Method", which has upgraded and improved the national standard by adding a cutting/blowback system to remove the main component methanol. The analysis time only requires 1/4 of the standard, and the efficiency is high, meeting the needs of large-scale industrial production testing. The test results have been satisfactory on Agilent, Shimadzu, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Varian, Brooke, and PE.
